REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG -- Hundreds of cyclists from 25 countries are arriving in Lembata District, East Nusa Tenggara Province, to participate in the Tour de Flores scheduled to take place here from May 19-26.

Secretary of East Nusa Tenggara Tourism Office Weli Rohimone said here on Monday that the participants will spend a night at Lembata before heading to Larantuka in East Flores District on Tuesday (May 17).

In Lembata, the bicycle racers will be welcomed by some cultural performances and will be introduced to some tourism destinations in the region.

"We will use this opportunity to introduce East Flores to the world," Head of Tour de Flores Organizing Committee Andi Kedang said.

On May 17, the Tour de Flores participants will go on a journey from Lembata by ferry to Larantuka to experience some tourism destinations such as Adonara and Solor Island.

Tour de Flores is expected to offer more spectacular views and will be more challenging than other bicycle races in Indonesia, such as Tour de Singkarak and Tour de Banyuwangi.

Tour de Flores will cover a distance of 615km, starting from Larantuka, East Flores on May 19, and concluding at Labuan Bajo on May 26.
