REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG ARO -- Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Sudirman Said offered to testify at the Honorary Council of the Parliament (MKD) over charge of alleged violation of ethical code against House Speaker Setya Novanto.

"We want to back up MKD in carrying out its duty. We would give anything we know including additional information if needed," the minister said here on Saturday.

Earlier Sudirman reported Setya Novanto to the MKD with transcript of conversation between the House speaker and the Chief Executive of PT Freeport Indonesia in an unofficial meeting where Novanto asked for a share in the U.S. mining company in exchange of help to renew its contract.

Novanto allegedly used the name of President Joko Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla to convince Freeport that its contract would be extended.

PT Freeport Indonesia, an Indonesian unit of the U.S. mining giant Freeport McMoran Copper & Gold having large copper and gold mines in Papua, is seeking renewal of its contract which is still effective until 2021.

Suriman said he believed that MKD would carry out its duty and duly process the case against Novanto.

"I have done my part of reporting and now it is for the MKD to continue with the processing. Whatever they want that I have I would give," he said.

He said he would come if the MKD wants him to come for additional information.

Sudirman said Novanto invited the Freeport leader to a meeting several times , the last being in June 2015.
