REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SLEMAN -- A delegation of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste visited Sleman District to gain an understanding about poverty reduction on Thursday.

"The visit is part of the efforts to reform social policies in Timor Leste. We want to learn about poverty reduction in Sleman," Chairman of the Timor Leste Delegation Arcangelo de Jesus Leite stated here on Thursday.

According to Leite, the delegation had tried to explore a wide range of social policies in other countries in a bid to reform the policies in Timor Leste.

The representation has selected two countries: Malaysia and Indonesia.

"Indonesia has undergone several developments since reformation. It is important to gain from Indonesia's experiences," Leite emphasized.

Leite pointed out that the Sleman district administration had made positive progress in tackling poverty.

"The government has experienced some difficulties in obtaining valid data on poverty since sub-district heads had impoverished their citizens," Leite pointed out.

Meanwhile, Assistant Secretary of Sleman Administration Joko Handoyo has welcomed the members of the Timor Leste delegation who will share their experiences with Sleman.

"In terms of poverty management, Sleman has data collection systems in place and has implemented various program activities," he remarked.

Handoyo pointed out that several people from Sleman no longer wanted to be part of the poverty data as their welfare improves.

Handoyo invited the representatives to share their experiences and to cooperate with the Sleman administration.
