Switzerland seeks investment in Batam

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM - Government of Switzerland is seeking investment in Batam free trade zone (FTZ) and they have sent 72 representatives to Batam.

"The representatives are interested to invest on several sectors in Batam, such as electronics, animation and chocolate industries," Public Relations of Batam Enterprise Agency (BP Batam), Ilham Eka Hartawan, said, on Sunday, then added that Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland will discuss further. .

BP Batam will develop its infrastructure, particularly ports and transportation to increase its competitiveness with other areas in Asia. Batuampar Container Port is being expanded and due to finish in 2014, while Tanjungsauh Port, having the capacity of four million TEU's, will be built in 2014. 

BP Batam also plans to develop Hang Nadim International Airport.

Based on the data in BP Batam, during 2012 foreign investment in Batam FTZ reaches 148,781,335 USD. Compared to similar period in the previous year, the investment is declining. However, compared to 2010, investment value in 2011 and 2012 are much higher.
