REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice Governor of Jakarta Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno underwent an injection of diphtheria immunization at City Hall on Friday.
Prior to undergoing the vaccine injection, the vice governor's blood pressure was checked by Doctor Dinda. His blood pressure was 110/80. He then was injected with the diphtheria immunization.
"I want to give an example of following the program that is now encouraged by the provincial administration, diphtheria immunization associated with outbreaks (Extraordinary Occurrence)," said Uno.
He explained more than 5,000 people daily met and were vulnerable to diphtheria transmission. He expected the media crew to cover diphtheria immunization again.
"My friends, I also proposed for diphtheria injection, because you meet about 5000-6000 people, shake hand with them and having cheek kissing with them. Therefore we give an example for diphtheria immunization and the whole attached me to immunization," said Sandiaga.
Currently the number of diphtheria patients now under treatment in Jakarta totaled 36 people. Two have died.
Diphtheria is particularly dangerous to patients if the patients get treatment 2-3 days after contracting the disease. If a patient has a cough more than two weeks it is possible that he or she might have high risk, he said.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, conducted a socialization program for the prevention of diphtheria disease called "Outbreak Response Immunization" (ORI) simultaneously in SMA 33 senior high school in West Jakarta, Monday.
The ORI program is conducted with a cross-sectoral cooperation involving among others the Social Service, Neighborhood (RT), RW and Health Cadre.
Target of ORI is to immunize 1,238,283 inhabitants in North Jakarta and West Jakarta totaled 1,238,283 inhabitants. ORI is done in all kindergartens, early childhoods, primary / junior high school, junior high school and university. It is also done in health facilities, hospitals and other locations such as daycare, apartments and flats.
