Police chief allows officers to shoot brutal biker gangs

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Police stated to take firm action to biker gangs which made trouble among the societies. Besides arresting and conducting massive patrols, police would also take a direct action against the biker gangs’ threats. 

Director of General Crime in Jakarta Metro Police Rudy Heriyanto Adi Nugroho said police had got an instruction from the National Police Chief and Jakarta Metro Police Chief to take direct action when the biker gangs bring weapons. 

"The answer is, shoot in feet. Direct shot is a part of standard operating procedure of our law enforcement,” said him at his office on Friday (June 2). 

Rudy argued that biker gangs were not only a juvenile delinquency, but a crime. Within the action, they often hurt, persecute, and rob the victims.  “We cannot tolerate the situation anymore,” he said. 

According to Rudy, police always consider human rights aspect in law enforcement. However, police might shot an assailant when they fought against them. 

Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Chief Suntana said police took a persuasive action by cooperated with National Military Unit and societies to make prevention. Recently, police arrested 17 people allegedly involved in biker gangs to be scouted. “We will call their parents, teachers, head of society groups to be care in the growth of the youngsters  after being handled by the police,” said Suntana.
