Muslim condemns Jakarta governor for religious blasphemy

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Residents have condemned Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) for harrassing Islamic value stated in the Alquran Surah Al-Maidah Verse 51. On Thursday (10/6), a groups of lawyers Patriotism Advocacy/Advokasi Cinta Tanah Air (ACTA) tried to report Ahok to the police allegedly religious blasphemy.

The case began while Ahok visit to the Seribu Islands on September 27. Ahok delivered speech in front of the audience and local residents. "Maybe you, ladies and gentleman can't vote me, you have been lied to Surah Al-Maidah Verse 51," Ahok, which is not a Muslim, said on March 30 while addresing his plan to build cooperation facilities in the Islands. His harrassing words heard in the minute 24th.

Ahok said there were nothing wrong about his statement. He did not mean to harrash, but did not like to politize sacred sciptures. "Please watch the full version of the video, especially at 23:40 until 25:35," he said.

The statement appeared in video that uploaded by Jakarta Provincial Government in Youtube channel. Video duration for 1 hour 48 minutes 33 seconds with entitled '27 Sept 2016 Gub Basuki T Purnama kunjungan ke Kep Seribu dlm Rangka Kerja Sama dgn STP '. Jakarta residents criticized and condemned the statement.

In fact, a Jakartans, Irfan Noviandana, on Wednesday (5/10) yesterday made a petition to Ahok on website www.change.org. "As Indonesian citizen, especially Muslims, we are very objected Ahok's statement harassing the Holy Quran," said Irfan.

Irfan demanded several points through the petition page. The first point is the demand for an apology and remorse from Ahok about his comments considered harassing Alquran. The second point, the petition asked the Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) took firm action to warn the incumbent to be cautious with his words.

Furthermore, in the third point, Irfan asked the Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin warns Ahok not to made a statement that trigger unrest in religious communities.

A Jakarta resident in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, M Amin said, Ahok does not reflect a good leader. According to Amin, Ahok's statement has caused unrest and uncomfortable atmosphere among the Jakartans, especially Muslims. "Ahok always said to his political opponents not to use ethnic, religious, racial and intergroup (SARA) campaign. But, among the candidates for governor, only Ahok who's made SARA sentiments," said Amin.

Surah Al Maidah Verse 51 mentioned: O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you - then indeed, he is [one] of them. Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people.
