Police arrest 23 illegal immigrants from Afghanistan and Pakistan

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUKABUMI - Police have arrested 23 illegal immigrants from Afghanistan and Pakistan planning to cross to Australia in Cisolok and Pelabuhan Ratu in Sukabumi, West Java. The head of the public relations sub-division of the resort police, Adjunct Commissioner Siswanto, meanwhile said Sukabumi waters has often been used by illegal immigrants an asylum to cross to Australia due to its proximity to that country.

"There were arrested following reports from villagers who were suspicious of the presence of foreigners in Karanghawu beach," deputy chief of the Sukabumi resort police, Commissioner Pilemon Ginting, said on Friday.

He suspected the immigrants believed to come from Cisarua, Bogor, West Java, were caught while about crossing to Australia at around 10.30am. "All of the immigrants would be taken to the immigration office in Sukabumi," he said.
