Only 48 restaurants in Indonesia have halal certificate

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia Halal watch (IHW) reported a significant progress on halal certification in Indonesia. But, it was not considered to be optimum, compared to the Indonesian Muslims population.

Executive Director of IHW Ikhsan Abdullah said there were only 48 restaurants in Indonesia had halal certificate. It was a very few numbers compare to the total of 3.081 restaurants in this country.

In the cosmetic industries, only 326 products had certificate from the total 12.420 products. 31 medicines and 381 jamu (traditional herbal drink) also held the certificate. For food product, 14.027 products had registered to Indonesian Agency for Drugs and Food Control (BPOM) and 6.554 of them had halal certificate.

Besides the information from BPOM, IHW also recorded the data from LPPOM-MUI. About 17.987 food and drink products (41.1 percents), 23.377 cosmetics (53.5 percents), 1.038 medicines (2.4 percents), 2.3 percents of traditional medicine and 316 food supplement (0.7 percents) had halal certificate.

On 2012, the number of companies registered halal certificate were 626, halal certificate holder were 653 and 19.830 products. On 2013, there were 2.363 companies, 2.995 certificate and 80.887 products.

On 2014, the companies were 2.500 with 3.058 certificate and 126.013 products. In 2015, there were 2.970 companies, 3.801 certificates, and 126.013 products. In 2016, there were 2.776 companis, 3.621 certificate and 123.588 products.
