Nahdlatul Ulama-Muhammadiyah unite in Surabaya

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA --  Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah as two different Islamic organizations in Indonesia have united in Surabaya, East Java.

Committee of Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) and Muhammadiyah's Regional Leader (PDM) in Surabaya issued Resolution Ramadan have united to keep Surabaya from radicalism. Cooperation between the two organizations was signed in the Office of PCNU Surabaya, Bubutan Street, Surabaya, on Wednesday (15/6).

"Radicalism doctrine should not be developed in Surabaya, after the detained of the three terrorists at some places in Surabaya on Wednesday (8/6)," said Chairman of PCNU Surabaya Muhibbin Zuhri. He encouraged the Surabaya City administration cooperate with the NU and Muhammadiyah Surabaya to fortify the residents from influence of radicalism and terrorism.

"NU and Muhammadiyah ready to keep the environment. Do not let Surabaya marred by weird things. Therefore, Surabaya City administration needs to synergize with NU and Muhammadiyah in resolving the issue of terrorism," he said.

According to him, early detection of the activities of radicalism and terrorism is necessary and must involve Islamic organizations.

"This cooperation for Surabaya in culturally, but everything depends willingness Surabaya City administration," he said.

Vice-Chairman of PDM Surabaya Hamri Al Jauhari added cooperation as form non-formal relations in order to find solutions together in the middle of the chaotic problem of Surabaya.

"Push Surabaya City administration and forum of regional leaders (forpimda) to work together with organizations in early detection in order to anticipate the threat of radicalism and terrorism," he said.
