Malaysian police arrests Indonesian nationals related to Kim Jong Nam death

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Malaysian police has arrested an Indonesian nationals as the second suspect related to the death of Kim Jong Nam, the estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. They identified the suspect as Siti Aishah. “She was also positively identified from the CCTV footage at the airport and was alone at the time of arrest,” Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said in the statement as quoted by Straits Times.

Regarding the personal data of the suspect submitted by the Malaysian security authorities, the Embassy of the Republic Indonesia (KBRI) has verified it with the temporary data the KBRI. The status of the woman confirmed as Indonesia citizen. She was registered as a 25 -years-old female from Serang, west of Java.

Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities (PWNI-BHI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, explained Indonesian government has sent staff of the Embassy to Selangor, Malaysia. "Embassy continues to coordinate with the Malaysian security forces related to this case," he said in a written statement received by Republika.co.id, Thursday (Feb 16).

Jong-nam (45 years) was allegedly killed by two women who splashed chemicals to his face in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 09:00 am local time on Monday (Feb 13). At that time, he planned to go to Macau.

The perpetrator then got into a taxi and fled. Previously, Malaysian authority detained the first female suspect, namely Doan Thi Huong (28). She was caught at KLIA2 on Wednesday morning attempting to depart to Vietnam. Local dailies reported that the woman told officers she was roped in for a prank to spray liquid onto a stranger at the airport.
