REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Several state officials were allegedly wiretapped by a network associated with General Listyo Sigit Prabowo at the Indonesian National Police Headquarters. Listyo, who served as National Police Chief from January 27, 2021, to October 1, 2026, was subsequently inaugurated as Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) on October 1, 2026.
According to information obtained by Republika, in addition to the President of Indonesia, the Indonesian Minister of Defence was also included on the list of individuals allegedly targeted for wiretapping. Those on the surveillance list were reportedly considered “threats” to General Listyo.
When asked about reports that the Defence Minister had been targeted for wiretapping, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of the Defense Information Bureau at the Secretariat General of the Ministry of Defence, referred the matter to the relevant authorities.
"Regarding this matter, we are not in a position to speculate or comment on circulating issues or allegations,” Rico told Republika in Jakarta on Tuesday evening (October 3, 2026, Western Indonesia Time).
He explained that the Ministry of Defence was not in a position to interfere in matters involving wiretapping. Rico said that authority rested with the National Police Headquarters, which is currently examining the case thoroughly.
“We leave the entire handling process, verification, and any follow-up concerning these alleged offenses entirely to the ongoing legal proceedings and investigation being conducted by the police,” Rico said.
