REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia is ready to recognize the state of Israel after Palestine gains independence. According to him, Indonesia and France are ready to support Palestine becoming an independent state.

Prabowo insists that the solution to the Palestinian problem is a two-state solution. Therefore, if the right of Palestine to be an independent state is recognized by Israel, then Indonesia is ready to do the same.

“We must also recognize Israel's right to be a sovereign state, which must also be observed and guaranteed,” Prabowo said during a joint statement with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (28/5/2025).

Prabowo said that Indonesia is ready to establish relations with Israel, provided that Palestine becomes an independent state. “Therefore, Indonesia has conveyed once the state of Palestine is recognized by Israel and we are ready to open diplomatic relations and I also say that Indonesia is ready,” Prabowo said.

Earlier, in the introduction to the tête-à-tête meeting, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the visit of President Macron and the French delegation to Indonesia. Prabowo also stressed the importance of continuing the two countries' long-standing close relationship.

“Thank you so much for your visit here, and it's a great honor for us. I hope we will continue to establish a very good friendship in the future,” Prabowo said.
