Hundreds of Thousands of People Leave Bali for Java Ahead of Nyepi and Lebaran

Up to H-4, a total of 368,514 people have crossed, up 44 percent from 2024.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) recorded a significant increase in the number of passengers and vehicles crossing from Bali to Java in the period H-10 to H-4 Lebaran 2025. Up to H-4, a total of 368,514 people had crossed, up 44 percent over last year's 255,219 people.

“Meanwhile, the number of vehicles crossed reached 115,700 units, an increase of 43 percent compared to last year's 80,725 units,” said General Manager of ASDP Branch Ketapang Yani Andriyanto in a written statement in Jakarta, Friday (28/3/2025).

Yani said conditions at Gilimanuk Port were smoother after a time of overcrowding two days earlier. After the peak in density, Yani said, the flow is now more controlled, especially with the closure of the Nyepi current crossing.

Yani said ASDP together with the Ministry of Transportation and other stakeholders have prepared optimal strategies to ensure homecoming services remain smooth, safe, comfortable, and safe. In the framework of Nyepi, the operation of the crossing will be temporarily suspended in accordance with the Joint Decree.

“Gilimanuk Port ceased operations on March 28 at 05.00 WITA, while Port Ketapang closed on March 28 at 17.00 WIB. After the reopening, ASDP ensures the readiness of the fleet and facilities to accommodate the flow of homecoming,” Yani said.

Based on Gilimanuk Post data for 24 hours on H-4 (March 27), Yani reported that 30 ships were in operation. The number of passengers crossing from Bali to Java on H-4 reached 60,296 people or less 10 percent compared to last year's 67,048 people.

On the vehicle side, two-wheelers crossed totaled 12,748 units or lower five percent from last year's 13,359 units. Four-wheelers totaled 5,582 units, eight percent lower than last year's total of 6,072 units.

“Overall, the total number of vehicles crossing from Bali to Java on H-4 reached 20,145 units or a decrease of seven percent compared to last year's 21,571 units,” Yani said.

Meanwhile, cumulative data from H-10 to H-4 shows the total number of passengers who have crossed from Bali to Java reached 368,514 people, up 44 percent over last year's 255,219 people. Total vehicles crossed also increased 43 percent or reached 115,700 units versus 80,725 units in the same period last year.

In contrast, Yani said, Ketapang Post data on H-4 recorded the total realization of passengers crossing from Java to Bali reached 15,082 people, 44 percent lower than the same period last year of 27,118 people. For vehicles, 368 two-wheeled units crossed, down 33 percent from last year's 550 units. Four-wheelers totaled 1,507 units or lower 52 percent from 3,167 units last year.

“Overall, the total vehicles crossing from Java to Bali on H-4 reached 2,656 units or 51% lower than last year's 5,418 units,” Yani continued.

Yani added that cumulatively from H-10 to H-4, the number of passengers crossing from Java to Bali reached 156,992 people or an 11 percent increase over last year's 141,197 people. However, the total number of vehicles crossing from Java to Bali recorded 30,693 units or four percent lower than last year's 32,098 units.

“ASDP continues to ensure the optimization of services and facilities throughout the port in order to anticipate the movement of the return flow. With synergies between ASDP, regulators, and other relevant parties, it is expected that this year's homecoming flow will remain smooth, safe, and convenient for all service users,” Yani said.

East Java Police Chief Irgen Pol Nanang Avianto, Pangdam V/Brawijaya TNI Maj. Rudy Saladin, and East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa also reviewed the homecoming flow at Port Ketapang, Banyuwangi, on Friday (28/3/2025). Nanang said community activity increased since the beginning of Ramadan.

“The key to the smooth flow of homecoming is synergy and collaboration between stakeholders,” Nanang said.
