REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Adaro Energy CEO Garibaldi Thohir received the Green Leadership Award in Anugerah Lingkungan Proper (Program for Assessment of Company Performance Ranking in Environmental Management), in Jakarta, Monday (24/2/2025). The award was given by the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia (MOH).
Garibaldi expressed his pride at this award, which marks the company's commitment to sustainability. “This award is an honor, because it's something special. For us, particularly in the mining world, this Green Leadership award is the most excellent and the highest,” Garibaldi said.
He added that PT Adaro Indonesia has achieved PROPER Gold seven times, making it the only coal mining company in Indonesia to achieve this achievement.
Garibaldi stressed the importance of making a real contribution to the surrounding community. “We have to take care of the environment and have a beneficial social impact. There are still many people in need, and we must play an active role in empowering them,” he explained.
Garibaldi added that Adaro has implemented various initiatives in South Kalimantan, particularly in Tabalong and Balangan Regency, to improve the quality of life of people. “We focus on education, stunting issues, health, and hygiene. In South Borneo, we touch the smallest parts that are important for public health,” he added.
Going forward, Garibaldi said Adaro Energy will continue to develop its initiatives, including supporting President Prabowo's vision to provide free nutritious food in built schools. “Early childhood education is very important. If there is not enough nutrition, children cannot be intelligent,” he said.
Garibaldi also highlighted the importance of housing for newly remarried families. “We will try to help those who don't already own a home,” he said. Regarding the environment, he emphasizes that proper assessment is very strict, and companies must always be vigilant.
“The mindset of the leader on the ground is very important. We must be scrupulous and must not be caught off guard. Otherwise, it could result in something undesirable,” Garibaldi said reiterating Adaro Group's commitment to continue contributing to sustainability and community well-being.
