REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT PLN (Persero) ensures reliable electricity supply during Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 (Nataru). PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said this readiness was part of PLN's full support of the directives of President Prabowo Subianto and SOE Minister Erick Thohir to maintain national energy resilience during the Nataru period.

“We from PLN fully support the direction of President Prabowo and SOE Minister Erick Thohir in ensuring energy sustainability during Christmas and New Year. We have prepared the entire electricity infrastructure preventively to ensure the reliability of electricity supply,” Darmawan said during PLN and Pertamina's Christmas and New Year preparedness press conference at the Media Center of the Ministry of BUMN, Jakarta, Monday (9/12/2024).

Darmawan said PLN has carried out various anticipated measures, including maintenance of the plant, transmission network, distribution, as well as customer service operations. Darmawan revealed that the national electricity demand during the Nataru period is estimated at 39,000 megawatts (MW), while PLN has alerted the plant with a total power capable of supplying 53 thousand MW.

“We are making sure that the electricity supply is sufficient. In addition, the availability of primary energy such as coal, gas, and diesel is also in very safe conditions, with the average plant operational day (HOP) above 23 days,” Darmawan added.

PLN, Darmawan continued, has also ensured the readiness of transmission and distribution lines, ranging from high to low voltage, substations, and distribution substations. Darmawan said the entire infrastructure has gone through an intensive maintenance process.

In order to ensure smooth operations, connect Darmawan, PLN alerted 81,591 personnel belonging to 1,853 standby posts across Indonesia. These personnel are equipped with adequate equipment, such as 1,731 generator units, 735 UPS units, and 1,206 Mobile Substation Units (UGB).

Darmawan said PLN was also preparing a support fleet, including 395 units of truck cranes, 3,756 cars, and 3,318 motors. Darmawan said PLN also pays special attention to strategic locations such as airports, stations, terminals, hospitals, shopping centers, and places of worship.

“We are setting up a layered power supply to ensure there is no disruption in vital locations during the Nataru period,” Darmawan said.

Anticipating potential disruptions due to extreme weather, Darmawan said, PLN has carried out preventive assessment and maintenance throughout the operating system. PLN also implements digital technologies, such as Smart Power Plant, Smart Transmission, and Smart Distribution in the Anti Black Out protocol.

“With this digital system, potential disruptions can be automatically responded to and dealt with quickly. We continue to innovate to maintain the reliability of electricity supply amid the challenges that exist,” Darmawan said.
