REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian women's national team came out as the champions of the AFF Women's Cup 2024. Satoru Michizuki's team defeated Cambodia 3-1 in the final which took place at New Laos Stadium, Vientiane, Laos, on Thursday (5/12/2024) night.
Two of Indonesia's women's national team goals were scored by Reva Octaviani in the 19th minute and Sydney's Sari Hopper in the 36th minute. Another goal was booked by in the 58th minute through Reva Octaviani. While Cambodia's only goal was scored by Hok Saody in the 32nd minute.
Fifteen minutes early, the Indonesian goal game was bombarded by the Cambodian team. But finally Indonesia can escape the pressure. Even in the 19th minute, Garuda Pertiwi was able to score through Reva.
Starting from Katarina carrying the ball on the left side of the field, it saw Reva's player at the second pole without control. Katarina gave a beautiful pass to Reva that gave Indonesia a 1-0 lead.
Cambodia responded to the goal. In the 32nd minute, Cambodia got a free kick on the left of the field, the ball too far to the other side of the pitch. There was already Sovanmony waiting, but the Indonesian back was able to take care of him.
Out of control, he passes the ball into the penalty box. Saody, who was among the Indonesian players, managed to pick up the ball with his head and reeled it into the far post. Goalkeeper Roati Masykuroh is off stride and fails to prevent the ball from going into his net. Cambodia equalised 1-1.
36th minute, on the left side of the pitch, Sheva Imut Furyzcha made a throw-in to Ellen Tria Fellika. The ball is returned to Sheva who sprints with the Cambodian player guarding it. Seeing Sydney running towards the middle of the penalty box, Sheva then fired a cutback pass to him.
An out-of-control Sydney easily clipped the Cambodian goal to enlarge the lead to 2-1, which held until halftime was over.
Despite a 2-1 lead, Indonesia kept pressing in the second half. In the 58th minute, Reva managed to get his name on the scoreboard.
The Cambodian full-back failed to throw the ball away so substitute Rosdilah Siti Nurrohmah managed to snatch the ball away. Reva who came from the other side got a sweet operant from Rosdilah. An already uncontrollable Reva and a dead-step goalkeeper had the ball easily rolled into the net. Reva's goal gave Indonesia a 3-1 lead and ensured the first title for Indonesia.
Third place went to Singapore who beat East Timor 1—0. Indonesia, Cambodia and Singapore qualified for the ASEAN Women's Championship 2025, the highest international women's football tournament in Southeast Asia. Five teams are waiting: Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Myanmar, and Australia.
