Corporate Secretary of Pertamina New & Renewable Energy, Dicky Septriadi explained that Berdikari Energy Village is one of Pertamina's flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs aimed at providing clean energy access to remote villages throughout Indonesia. This program not only provides sustainable access to electricity, but also encourages local economic growth and empowers communities to become more self-sufficient in meeting energy needs.

“Through Berdikari Energy Village, Pertamina is also strengthening its determination to contribute to global climate action. As one of the world's largest energy producers, Pertamina recognizes its important role in supporting Indonesia's development while facing the challenges of climate change,” Dicky stressed during a panel held at ICESCO Pavillion on Wednesday (13/11/2024).

DEB's presence at COP 29 is also an invitation for the rest of the private sector to play a role in climate action. Pertamina stressed that climate change is a common enemy that can only be overcome by cross-sector collaboration.

“Taking part in climate action is not just about corporate responsibility, it's also about ensuring business sustainability and community resilience in the future. We invite other companies to join us, contribute to initiatives such as Berdikari Energy Village, and together create positive change,” Dicky concluded.

Pertamina Vice President Corporate Communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso said Pertamina continues to expand the use of rural based clean energy through the Berdikari Energy Village Program. To date, Pertamina has operated 114 Berdikari Energy Villages across Indonesia.

“The DEB developed by Pertamina uses clean energy sourced from solar power, microhydro, and biogas, which has great potential so that it can provide benefits in a sustainable way,” Fadjar said.

Fadjar added that in carrying out the DEB program, Pertamina not only installed clean energy infrastructure, but also provided education to the public how to manage clean energy in order to provide optimal benefits for economic development. Through this education, Pertamina hopes that people can independently manage their own energy.

The program has provided direct benefits to more than 30,000 people, reduced carbon emissions by more than 729 thousand tons of CO2eq per year, and created a positive economic impact of 180 thousand US dollars per year.

“DEB is a driver of people's energy and economic independence, as well as supporting changes in people's behavior in implementing environmentally friendly practices,” Fadjar said.

Pertamina, Fadjar added, will continue to expand the use of village-based clean energy. By 2024, Pertamina aims to add DEB in 79 regions. In addition to supporting energy self-sufficiency, the DEB Program is also instrumental in reducing emissions in line with the government's target of achieving NZE by 2060.

“The wider the use of clean energy, the greater the reduction in carbon emissions so as to accelerate the government's target in the NZE,” Fadjar said.

Pertamina, as a leader in the field of energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emissions 2060 target by continuing to promote programs that directly impact the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All of these efforts are in line with the implementation of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) across Pertamina's business lines and operations.
