REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Indonesia national coach Shin Tae-yong is aiming to enter the final of the AFF Cup 2024 or the ASEAN Championship Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024. The South Korean coach also revealed that the team that will be brought will be local U-22 players.
“The Indonesian national team will come with the U-22 Team, certainly less than other teams, but we will try our best, we hope to make it to the final round,” Shin Tae-yong said while celebrating the Thropy Tour event at FX Senayan, Jakarta, Saturday (2/11/2024).
Shin Tae-yong revealed that in order to face the prestigious tournament in Southeast Asia, the team will conduct a training camp in Bali after the senior teams host Japan and Saudi Arabia in mid-November.
“After the opponents Japan and Saudi Arabia, or on November 26, 2024 we will go to Bali TC, for 10 days. After that, he will leave for Myanmar to play the inaugural match of the AFF 2024 cup,” he said.
Despite being given the freedom to choose players, Shin Tae-yong said it would be difficult to call up Indonesian players playing in foreign leagues. The AFF Cup is not on FIFA's official agenda.
