ASEAN Leaders Appreciation and Applause for Jokowi

President Jokowi did not attend the ASEAN Summit in Laos.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was absent from the 44th and 45th ASEAN summits in Vientiane, Laos, on 9-11 October 2024. The President was represented by Vice President Maruf Amin who led the Indonesian delegation.

However, despite not being able to attend the summit, leaders of ASEAN countries thanked and appreciated Jokowi's role for ASEAN.

“On behalf of ASEAN leaders, we appreciate President Jokowi's contribution to ASEAN, particularly in promoting ASEAN and making ASEAN a growth hub. I pray for health and happiness,” Laotian PM Sonexay Siphandone said while chairing the Plenary Session of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits at the National Convention Center (NCC), Vientiane, Laos, Wednesday (9/10/2024).

The Lao PM also invited the leaders of ASEAN countries present at the summit to applaud Jokowi for his contribution. The call of the Lao PM was welcomed by the ASEAN leaders present.

Appreciation was also conveyed by Vietnamese PM Pam Minh Cinh while giving her views at the plenary session.

“Appreciation for Indonesia and Jokowi in his role for the continuation of ASEAN,” the Vietnamese PM said.

Vietnamese PM Pam Minh Cinh hopes Jokowi can contribute to other issues in ASEAN.

On the occasion of the summit, Vice President Maruf Amin representing Jokowi conveyed greetings from President Jokowi who was unable to attend this summit due to various state affairs. Where, must be resolved before the end of the Government's term on October 20, 2024.

“This summit is the last summit attended by the government of President Joko Widodo. The new government will run the administration on October 20,” said Vice President Maruf Amin.
