REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Muhammadiyah considers that Israel's savagery in the Palestinian land, especially the Gaza Strip, has gone far beyond its limits. The genocide waged by the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people is unacceptable to common sense or human conscience.
This was stated by the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Center for International Relations and Cooperation, Prof. Syafiq A Mughni. According to him, the great powers in the global sphere, including the United States and Western allies, should stand for humanity and freedom, not Zionist colonization and oppression.
“The genocide committed by Israel is a form of moral barbarity that is difficult to accept with common sense or conscience,” said UIN Professor Sunan Ampel Surabaya when contacted by the Republic on Monday (7/10/2024).
Shafiq also highlighted continued Israeli efforts to impede the flow of humanitarian aid from outside the Gaza Strip. Since October 2023, Palestinians in the region have been threatened with food insecurity. In fact, many of them are children suffering from hunger and malnutrition.
“Imagine if we experienced the same thing. There should be no harm or impediment to humanitarian aid. This is beyond politics because humanity is our common universal commitment,” Shafiq said.
In the wake of a year of genocide in Gaza, the Brotherhood called on all elements of the nation, especially Muslims, to continue tightening the boycott movement. The targets of this boycott are products that are affiliated with or even directly supportive of Israel.
Various attempts have been made to list products that deserve to be boycotted, as did BDS Indonesia.
“The boycott is the pressure that needs to be put in place for Israel to end all forms of cruelty and barbarity against the Palestinian people. And also, for Israel to stop the seizure of land belonging to the Palestinians,” he said.
