REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Holding BUMN Industri Mines or MIND ID ensures the management of biodiversity around the mine's operational area. This is done by MIND ID together with the Holding members to restore the functioning of the post-mining ecosystem while having a positive impact on the environment.
MIND ID Corporate Secretary, Heri Yusuf affirmed that, in line with the principles of Environmental Social and Governance (ESG), MIND ID Group is not only tasked with providing added value for the country, but also plays a role in contributing directly to society and the environment.
“In addition to applying the principles of Good Mining Practices, MIND ID Group ensures that mining operations also maintain the surrounding biodiversity,” Heri said in a written statement in Jakarta, Sunday (11/8/2024).
Through various biodiversity management initiatives, Heri continued, the mining that MIND ID does is not only sustainable, but also has a positive impact on the environment and the surrounding community. He said that mining operations areas, which are often located in forest areas and green open areas, require companies to manage biodiversity, both flora and fauna in the vicinity.
Heri said that this step was also carried out by PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM), which has a four hectare conservation program in Bukit Belungai, West Kalimantan. The program includes the conservation of 32 types of flora and 64 types of fauna, including the endemic herpetofauna of Borneo to protect rare species in the region.
Later, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) had a 2.1 hectare orchid conservation program in South Sumatra. With a capacity of 500,000 orchid stems, this conservation program includes various orchid rescue processes ranging from site identification, inventory and type identification, to planting and propagating flowers by tissue culture.
“This conservation program has 80 types of orchids that are intended to supply the needs of reclamation, meet the demand of external parties, and rehabilitate the Watershed (watershed),” Heri continued.
Meanwhile, PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Inalum) has also carried out conservation activities around Lake Toba by planting 732,265 trees in an area of 1,409.63 hectares during the period 2015-2022.
In 2022, Heri said, Inalum added 308,148 trees through various conservation programs as part of full support to the government's program to make Lake Toba a Super Priority Tourist Destination Area.
Meanwhile, the biodiversity program conducted by PT Timah Tbk is carried out through marine rehabilitation in the Bangka region.
“Because it is carried out in aquatic areas, these rehabilitation activities include the creation of fish refuges, coral transplantation to restore damaged reefs, mangrove planting, monitoring seawater quality and restocking of squid and crab mangroves,” Heri said.
He said PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (VALE) developed Sawerigading Wallacea Park (Taman Kehati Sawerigading Wallacea) or conservation area in East Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi. Equipped with a wide range of facilities, the area includes a butterfly conservation area, deer breeding, a nursery of 700 tree seedlings per year, as well as an arboretum with a collection of 70 tree species and a mining park to display old mining equipment.
