PSSI Supports the Street Football Team Carving Achievements at HWC 2024

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PSSI fully supports the Indonesian street football (homeless) team to achieve achievements in the Homeless World Cup (HWC) 2024 in September. “Indonesia's homeless football team has fought for Indonesia without stigma and discrimination through world-class achievements,” said PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir via his personal instagram account: @erickthohir after meeting with Indonesian street football players as quoted in Jakarta, Tuesday (18/6/2024).

He explained that the Indonesian street football team has achieved great achievements by winning the Lassen Park Award trophy at the Homeless World Cup in Sacramento, USA in 2023. Erick hopes that, at HWC 2024, the Indonesian national team will again continue to achieve the achievements that make Indonesia's name more and more famous on the world stage.

He encouraged the street football team to continue to develop into a formidable and increasingly respected team in the rest of the country. “Go ahead. Prove everyone deserves justice and equal opportunity in all things,” he concluded.

As reported on the official website of the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Homeless World Cup (HWC) or Homeless World Cup is a social organization established specifically to tackle homelessness and poverty through street football around the world.

The HWC holds an annual football competition attended by nearly 80 of its member countries involving more than 100,000 people. The organization's primary mission is to use football to support and inspire homeless people to be able to change their own lives.

In addition, the organization also seeks to change the perception and attitude of the general public towards homeless people. As for the member countries of the HWC, among others from the African Continent are Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
