Evan Gintang, a specialist in Internal Medicine who serves as a Hajj officer in Makkah said that one of the tips for worshippers to stay healthy for the Hajj pilgrimage is to consume nutritious food and rest.

“Pilgrims should eat nutritious food, get enough rest,” he said while surfing in Sector 5, Makkah, on Tuesday (11/6/2024).

The weather in Makkah itself is currently reaching 45° Celsius and the pilgrims who worship at the Masjid al-Haram are very crowded. Therefore, he appealed to the pilgrims not to force themselves to go to the Grand Mosque in Makkah, especially elderly pilgrims.

If you experience symptoms such as being unable to sleep and being lazy to eat, he advises to check with a hajj health worker immediately. Because the symptoms that appear are a warning that the elderly person needs further attention.

“The worshipers who have the disease are consulted about their health to the health workers, so that at the time of entering Armuzna, the pilgrim is in a fit condition and does not experience a decrease in body function due to the illness,” Evan said.

After the service in Armuzna, he asked the pilgrims to measure their physical abilities and learn how to deal with the scorching heat of the sun. For example, pilgrims can use personal protective equipment such as umbrellas, sun spray, and wet wipes.

In addition, worshippers are also asked to bring water spray bottles and wet wipes, “Most often the occurrence when Armuzna is a heat stroke because the body overheats and causes impaired consciousness to the point of fainting. We have to protect ourselves from heat exposure,” explains doctor Evan.
