Indonesia Asks China to Collaborate on Investment to Develop AI

Indonesia's digital talent is believed to be able to drive AI innovation progress.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Communications and Informatics (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi represented the Indonesian Government in a bilateral meeting with Chinese representatives inviting the country to collaborate to invest in developing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Strengthening the call for collaboration, in June 2024 Menkominfo Budi Arie has also planned a working visit to Shanghai to delve into digital cooperation with China.

The bilateral meeting between Indonesia and China took place as part of the work visit of Menkominfo in Geneva, Switzerland (27/5). He discussed with Chinese Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology Shan Zhongde and his staff discussed the solicitation of such collaboration.

In general, Menkominfo Budi Arie presented various potentials that Indonesia has in AI development and HR investment as Indonesia's digital talent is believed to bring progress to the emergence of other innovations from AI.

One of the topics discussed is how Indonesia leverages AI to maximize the digital economy so that it can move from developing to developed countries.

From the regulatory side, Indonesia also began to design clear rules for the development of AI innovation and one of them was also realized by releasing a code of conduct on the use of AI for industry players.

This situation and potential is expected by Minister Budi Arie to attract China's interest to be able to support the development of Indonesia's digitalization through AI, especially in inland areas of Indonesia.

Responding to the call, Vice Minister of Industry and Technology of China Zhongde stated that his country is interested in supporting Indonesia in digital transformation. Not only development in the field of AI, but also support in terms of connectivity with the use of 5G and 6G technologies in the telecommunications sector.
