Sorong City Announces 234 Candidates for Hajj of this Year

Candidates for Hajj are expected to maintain the best possible health.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SORONG -- The government of Sorong, South West Papua has sent 234 would-be pilgrims to Makkah through the Makassar Embarkation to perform Hajj this year.

Second Assistant of Setda Kota Sorong, Thamrin Tajuddin explained that 234 candidates for Hajj will leave for Embarkation Makassar on Friday (24/5/224). Would-be pilgrims are expected to maintain the best possible health in order to maximize the practice of Hajj in Makkah.

“So that when I return, it can be a successful Hajj,” he explained on Thursday (23/5/2024).

He advised would-be pilgrims to make the best use of this momentum, as none of the prayers are denied when in the Holy Land.

“I ask you to make good use of this time of spiritual journey with the intention and determination to perfect the Hajj, so that later it can be a mabrur again,” he said.

Earlier, prospective Hajj worshippers attended a symbolic release event by Sorong City Government and Sorong City Religious Ministry Office on May 22, 2024.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office Rofi'ul Amri stated that 234 candidates for Hajj in Sorong City were dominated by 144 women, then 90 men.

“There is a 21-year-old Hajj candidate named Misfalah Sirajuddin. Then the oldest Hajj candidate was 97 years old in the name of Suwan Kara,” he said.

This year, the previous quota was 220 people but later increased to 234 people.

“We hope that each of the candidates for Hajj can maintain health and cohesion so that the orientation to perform Hajj worship can go as far as possible,” he said.
