REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The investigative team of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) says former member of Parliament of RI Muhammad Azis Syamsudin was examined about the facilities he received during his detention in Rutan Branch of KPK after giving some money to one of the suspects in a case of extortion and illegal levies in Rutan Branch of KPK.

“We also discussed the alleged receipt of facilities during detention in Rutan Branch of KPK for having provided some money to AF suspect (Ahmad Fauzi) and comrades,” KPK News Section Head Ali Fikri said when confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/5/2024).

In addition to this, the KPK investigation team also checked Azis for information about the presence of prisoners in the Rutan Branch of the KPK who coordinated the collection of money from the prisoners.

“Witnesses were present and confirmed the alleged presence of one of the detainees who was appointed as the coordinator of the collection of some money from the prisoners who were in the Rutan ward of the KPK branch,” Ali said.

Azis Syamsudin was originally scheduled to undergo examination as a witness in the pungli case in the Rutan Branch of KPK on May 8, 2024. However, the person concerned did not attend without giving reasons to the investigator, until a re-examination was finally scheduled.

The KPK on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, announced the dismissal of 66 of its employees involved in illegal levies and extortion in the Rutan Branch of the KPK.

The results of the inspection stated that 66 KPK employees were found to have violated Article 4 letter i; Article 5 letter a; and Article 5 letter k of Government Regulation No. 94 of 2021 on Discipline of Civil Servants.

Subsequently, on April 17, 2024, the secretary-general of the KPK decreed severe disciplinary punishment in the form of dismissal as a civil servant, as stipulated in article 8 paragraph (4) letter c of PP 94 of 2021.

The KPK explained that the dismissal was effective on the 15th day since the disciplinary decision was handed to the employees.

The decision to dismiss the employee, as part of the KPK's commitment to complete the handling of internal violations thoroughly and zero tolerance for corruption practices.

Regarding these violations, the KPK has also imposed ethical penalties based on the ruling of the Supervisory Board as well as the investigation of its alleged corruption offenses. The KPK Board of Supervisors stated that 93 employees were involved in a series of illegal levies cases in the Rutan Branch of KPK.

A total of 66 employees were eventually dismissed, 15 employees were identified as suspects and have been detained pending legal proceedings and another 12 employees are still awaiting the results of coordination with the State Personnel Agency (BKN).
