REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) monitored and evaluated the security system running at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali Province, to prepare for the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) scheduled this month in the province.

"We elevated the monitoring and evaluation of the security standards in a bid to welcome the 10th World Water Forum this year," Sigit Karyadi, Head of BNPT's Sub Department of Vital Objects and Transportation, noted in the agency's statement received here on Tuesday.

He remarked that the BNPT undertook the visit to Ngurah Rai Airport to follow up on security assessments earlier conducted at the international airport.

"This is a follow-up measure. Our objective in this mission is to conduct first-hand assessment and inspection on the application of the minimum standards of security at the Ngurah Rai Airport, Bali," he revealed.

Karyadi then expressed hope that the monitoring and evaluation would help Indonesia become a successful host for the triennial forum that will highlight the theme of "Water for Shared Prosperity" this year.

Meanwhile, the airport's security senior manager, I Made Darmawan, noted that his side would gladly synergize with the BNPT to apply the maximum security level prior to the 10th WWF.

He remarked that the airport's management is taking preparatory measures similar to those applied for the G20 Summit in 2022 and will also implement suggestions provided by the BNPT.

"Hopefully, by synergizing with colleagues from the BNPT and implementing their suggestions, we will be able to ensure a reliable security system to support the smooth running of the World Water Forum," he stated.

The 2024 WWF will take place on May 18-25 in Badung District, Bali, as a platform that brings together international delegates to discuss critical issues related to water resources and climate change.

Government officials, lawmakers, political leaders, international organizations, politicians, academicians, civil society, and business actors from various countries will take part in the forum.
