Dozens of Free School Public Transport to Serve Students in Jember East Java

In addition to school transportation, Jember Transportation Around the City was also launched.

REPUBLIKA.CO.UK JEMBER, JEMBER — The Government of Jember Regency (Pemkab), East Java, is rolling out a school transport program that can be used for free by students. The Transportation Service (Dishub) of Jember Regency prepared dozens of transport units for the program.

“The goal is to guarantee transport services to school, so that students who are not old enough do not bring motorcycles to school because city transport is prepared,” said Head of Dishub of Jember Regency Agus Wijaya.

In that program, Agus said, it empowered the city's transit. According to him, so far there are 41 transport units prepared. However, that operated a new 32 units. The school transport is said to have been used by students from dozens of schools spread across a number of districts, including in Kaliwates, Sumbersari, and Pakusari districts.

The free school transport was launched during the commemoration of the National Education Day (Hardi) in front of the Jember Government office on Thursday (2/5/2024). Simultaneously, the Jember Kelaround Kota (Jelita) shuttle was launched. “Jember Transportation Around the City is a means of supporting local tourist destinations in Jember to be visited and as a showcase for tourism promotion,” Agus said.

Both transport programs were launched by Regent Jember Hendy Siswanto, who was accompanied by Vice Regent M Balya Firjaun Barlaman. “Through this free transportation program facilitated by the Jember Transportation Department, it is hoped to bring benefits to the people of Jember, especially students and schoolgirls,” the Regent said.

According to the Regent, the free shuttles could later also be used to transport students to study outside the classroom. “For the independent learning curriculum, students can study mathematics anywhere, such as in Bandealit Beach or a traditional market, so as not to get tired of studying in the classroom, so that they can take advantage of the free transportation of Jember Regency,” he said.
