REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) mentions the water resources sector (SDA) and its infrastructure as a priority in the development of the Capital City of the Archipelago (IKN).
“We make sure that water is a priority,” Danis Sumadilaga, Chairman of the Task Force (Kasatgas) Implementation of Infrastructure Development of the Ministry of PUPR Danis Sumadilaga told ANTARA in Jakarta, Tuesday (23/4/2024).
Danis said that the PUPR Ministry is aware of how important the availability of water is for life in IKN.
“Concretely, how do we pay attention to drainage systems and prepare bubbles and so on, because we realize the importance of water availability for life in IKN,” he said.
According to Danis, speaking at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in May, that water is the source of life, in the sense that there is no life without water.
“Whether it is in IKN or other places, then the priority is the same as any development, the number one thing that must be ensured is the availability of water. It's the principle, the availability of water in the long term and not just momentary,” he said.
Similarly, in IKN, he added, the number one basic infrastructure that the government is most prepared for is the infrastructure supporting water resources for raw water.
“We identify because with the nature of the area and so on, we build two things at the initial stage of IKN construction, namely Sepaku Semoi Dam and Sepaku Intake. So, number one to guarantee water availability first,” Danis said.
Then, even more macro, he added, the Ministry of PUPR looks from the side of the environment (environment), which the ministry will ensure the environment in the IKN, there are two things when it comes to it, namely green and water.
Based on Annex to Law No. 3 of 2022 on the IKN Master Plan it is mentioned that urban water resource management aims to provide reliable security of access to drinking water, a decent sanitation system, protection of water sources from pollution, and reduction of flood risk in one integrated water management system.
The strategy will apply the principle of sponge city to integrate blue and green networks, in order to provide comfort and health benefits for IKN residents.
An integrated water management strategy to serve the IKN is necessary in meeting the development needs and constraints that will be faced by the development of the IKN.
An integrated water management approach that combines water use management, stormwater runoff, and wastewater treatment, by adopting an integrated approach between traditional water management systems.
The objective is to improve the overall efficiency of the resource with careful consideration in its use, and also its contribution in ecological systems while still respecting the limits of nature.
The main results of utilizing integrated water management are providing safe and reliable access to drinking water, effective sanitation, and protecting waterways from pollution.
In preparation for the 10th World Water Forum to be held in Bali, Indonesia on 18-24 May 2024, the Ministry of PUPR together with the World Water Council has drawn up a series of meetings according to three main processes, namely political process, regional process and thematic process.
The 10th World Water Forum carries the theme “Water for Shared Prosperity” which translates into six subthemes, among them “Water Security” and “Water for Humans and Nature” which carry a message about the importance of improving access to drinking water and sanitation services to reduce negative impacts on humans and the environment.
