742 Thousand People Have Returned to Java Island from Sumatra

Most of the settlers have returned to Java Island.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) noted that passenger and vehicle traffic leaving Sumatra towards Java Island was observed to be gradually normal and flowing smoothly. ASDP Corporate Secretary Shelvy Arifin said that if you look at the data on the movement of backflow settlers during April 11-18, 2024, most settlers have returned to Java Island.

“On April 17, 2024, four-wheeled traffic was observed arriving at Bakauheni Port and accessing the express boat service to Merak was quite crowded during the day to the evening. A total of 86,274 people have crossed,” Shelvy said in a written statement on Thursday (18/4/2024).

This was followed by motorcycles of 6,499 units and four-wheelers of 10,719 units. He said that the total number of vehicles on April 17, 2024 was 20,208 units that crossed to Peacock serviced by a total of 36 ships.

Accumulatively realized production of passengers who had returned to Java Island from Sumatra on 11-17 April amounted to 742,896 people. “This figure reaches 89 percent when compared to the number of passengers departing from Java Island on the return flow of 835,718 people,” Shelvy said.

Then followed the two-wheeled vehicles that have returned to Java with 72,445 units or 93 percent of the number of two-wheelers that left Java Island in the homecoming period of 77,573 units. Meanwhile, the four-wheelers that have returned to Java amounted to 90,615 units or 91 percent compared to the number of four-wheelers that left Java Island in the return flow of 100,087 vehicles.

“From these vehicle traffic data, cumulatively the total number of vehicles that have returned from Sumatra to Java Island starts at 174,216 units or reaches 89 percent compared to the number that departed during the return flow from Java of 196,287 vehicles. It's almost close to 100 per cent of passengers returning from their homecoming journey,” Shelvy said.
