REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Special Staff of Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Ahmed Zaki Iskandar projected economic movements during Lebaran's homecoming period to reach Rp 386 trillion. It was gained from the potential human movement of an estimated 193 million people on Lebaran homecoming this year.
“This means that in the period of time during the Lebaran long holiday, let's say per head they spend Rp 2 million during the homecoming season, there is a potential of about Rp 386 trillion that moves the economy in Indonesia on Lebaran homecoming,” Zaki said in a statement in Jakarta, Sunday (7/4/2024).
The main factor driving the economic movement during the Lebaran holiday is the availability of public transport and supporting infrastructure. The availability of buses, trains, and airplanes is called to be an important factor in facilitating the movement of people.
In addition, the extensive and well-connected road network in various regions, such as in Java, Sumatra, and other islands, is also a major driver of community movement. This, he said, would spark the interest of the tourist public.
“This makes people want to make moves, not only homecoming, but also sightseeing and visiting other areas. For example through the food and beverage sector, the hotel sector, tourism,” he said.
The money turnover is believed to have a significant impact on regional economic growth, especially for the micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) sector, so that it can be a momentum for the recovery of the regional economic sector after the Covid-19 pandemic.
He hopes that the money turnover will not only take place on Java Island, but also throughout the island in Indonesia. On the other hand, he sees increases in public transport price tickets during homecoming season won't have a big effect on inflation. Because, this will be covered by the massive movement and expenditure of the community during the holidays.
“There is indeed an impact on inflation because of the increase, but it can still be masked by human movements,” Zaki said.
