REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Election Commission (KPU) of DKI Jakarta Province stated that there is an age limit for gubernatorial candidates (cagub) and vice governor candidates (cawagub) who will contest in local elections (local elections)) in 2024. Cagub and cawagub must be at least 30 years old.

Dody Wijaya, Chairman of the Technical Division of Election Management of the Jakarta Provincial Commission, explained that the rule is enshrined in Law No. 10 of 2016 on the Election of Governors, Regents, and Mayors. In Article 7 paragraph 2 letter e it is mentioned that cagub and cawagub are at least 30 years old.

“The Commission is the enforcer of the law. We are committed to constitutional democracy. So if in the meantime the law is to speak for at least 30 years, we will follow the provisions of the legislation,” Dody said at Hotel Borobudur, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (2/4/2024).

Nevertheless, the Commission does not rule out the possibility of a party that will conduct a judicial review of the material. Therefore, it will wait for the exact result later. “But so far we are still referring to the current legislation,” Dody said.

The age limit is known to be one of the obstacles for DPP General Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Kaesang Pangarep, who is still 29 years old, to be able to advance in the Jakarta election. In fact, the youngest son of President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has been invited to participate in the 2024 presidential election.

Earlier, PSI DPP Chairman William Aditya Sarana said that PSI Kaesang General Chairman is a person who very much meets the criteria for becoming a Cagub of DKI Jakarta. Because, Kaesang is considered an excellent and appropriate figure to occupy the seat of DKI 1.

“I think that if it is administratively, administratively, it can be fulfilled, I think one of the figures that can be carried is Mas Kaesang,” William said in Jakarta on Wednesday (27/3/2024).

According to him, PSI has also conducted internal discussions to determine suitable names to serve as DKI Jakarta cagub. In addition to Kaesang, there is another worthy internal figure, namely Grace Natalie, who is very popular in DKI Jakarta.
