REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the VIII Commission of DPR RI Ashabul Kahfi revealed that there are differences in the early determination of Ramadan this year. However, according to him, Ramadan is not just about setting a date, but more about preparing for a blessed month, namely by increasing piety, patience and obedience.

“The spirit of Ramadan must remain alive no matter the start date. Therefore, I invite all parties to continue dialogue and discussion in order to reach a common understanding that will lead us to unity and togetherness of Muslims,” Ashabul said during a press conference after the Isbat session at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office, Jl MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, Sunday (10/3/2024).

He also called on all Muslims to remain appreciative of the diversity of differences in the determination of the beginning of Ramadan that exist among Muslims today.

“It shows the richness and dynamism in our understanding of falak science and the methods of hisab used,” he said.

Ashabul explained that the isbat session is an important momentum for Muslims to jointly determine the beginning of Ramadan. “This is a time where we are required to pay attention to existing differences of opinion while still maintaining the spirit of unity and brotherhood,” Ashabul said.

He respected all views in determining the beginning of Ramadan and hoped the isbat session would reach a harmonious agreement and provide reassurance for all Muslims in Indonesia to begin fasting worship.

“During the isbat hearing, we recognize the government's commitment to ensure the process of determining the beginning of Ramadan is conducted in a transparent, accountable, and scientific manner. We also appreciate discussions and consultations with various parties to obtain a broad and constructive view,” Ashabul explained.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining mutual respect and understanding among Muslims. “Dissent is a natural thing and should not diminish our brotherhood as Muslims,” he said.
