REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono confirmed that Jakarta's current status still stands as the State Capital due to the Jakarta Special Region Act (DKJ) in the process of discussion. Meanwhile, the decree on the transfer of the capital has not yet been published.

“The DKJ Act process does not exist yet, it is in process, of course it is still the capital,” Heru said in South Jakarta, Friday (8/3/2024).

Heru mentioned that with the ongoing process of discussing the DKJ Law, Jakarta is still valid to be referred to as the Capital Special Region (DKI). “It is still, still DKI, the Special Region of the Capital,” Heru said.

Earlier, Chairman of the Legislative Body of DPR RI Supratman Andi Agtas said that Law No. 29 of 2007 on DKI Jakarta as the Capital of the State expires on February 15, 2024. This is an implication of the Law on IKN that has been promulgated since February 15, 2022.

In Article 41 paragraph 2 of the IKN Law it reads “At the latest 2 (two) years from the date of the adoption of this Act, Law No. 29 of 2007 on the Government of the Special Regional Province of the Capital City of Jakarta as the Capital of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia is amended in accordance with the provisions of this Act”.

However, he explained that according to the rules in Article 41 of the IKN Law, since the establishment of the Decree on the Transfer of IKN to the Archipelago, the provisions of Article 3, Article 4 except for functioning as an autonomous region and Article 5 of Law No. 29 of 2007 on the Government of the Special Regional Province of the Capital City of Jakarta as the Capital of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia were repealed and declared invalid.

Parliament will also speed up the discussion of the DKJ bill to quickly ensure Jakarta after its status is revoked from the position of the state capital.

“In the next one, two days this (will be discussed soon), because this law urgently concerns the issue of the lost status of DKI, due to the existence of the IKN Law. The lost status of DKI is a special area of the capital, in the draft draft law, we still maintain the specific status of DKI,” Supratman said.

“Of course there must be another specificity, therefore we will talk again with the government. I have communicated with Mendagri before, well we may if not tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, we will be raker together with the government,” Supratman said, adding.
