REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the United Development Party (PPP) Consideration Assembly Muhammad Romahurmuziy said that there is a push from various regions for his party to become the opposition in the next government.
“The push for PPP to maintain the opposition stance is also still there even from the regions,” said a man familiar with Romy when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday (29/2/2024).
That followed a statement by the Chairman of the Election Authority (Bappilu) of the PPP Sandiaga Uno who openly joined the Prabowo-Gibran coalition. Nevertheless, he considered Sandiaga's statement to be a
personal opinion.
“But as Mr Sandi submitted it is among a growing personal aspiration and there has been no decision of anything at party level,” he said.
Because, his party has not determined a stance regarding the political steps that will be taken after the 2024 elections. Romy confirmed that until now the PPP has focused on controlling the vote count until KPU RI officially announces the results of the 2024 election on March 20. This is also a solid form of PPP in the coalition supporting Ganjar-Mahfud
.
“It is too early to address the new government, because the winner has not even been announced by the Commission,” Romy stressed.
In addition, he revealed that the PPP is experienced as an opposition more than half the age of the ka'abh-emblematic party, which is now 51 years old.
Earlier, Chairman of the Election Authority (Bappilu) of PPP Sandiaga Uno answered a question about the chances of his party joining the Prabowo-Gibran coalition.
Sandiaga said that the PPP is currently the party supporting the government and its position is in the government. In his personal view, the PPP would be very honoured to be invited to nation-building
.
“Because according to its name, the United Development Party for Indonesian unity and development should take an active part in building the nation. That's my view,” Sandiaga said in Jakarta on Monday (26/2

Despite this, Sandi stressed that the determination of the political direction of the PPP will be later in the national leadership meeting.
