3 Areas in Banten Potentially Hit by Extreme Weather

BMKG issued an early warning of extreme weather warnings in 3 Banten regions.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LEBAK -- The Bureau of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG) mentions three areas in Banten as potentially affected by extreme weather. It is characterized by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds as well as lightning on Friday (23/2/2024) noon.

BMKG Class I Data and Information Field Coordinator Serang Tatang Rusmana said it issued an early warning of extreme weather warnings that hit three areas in Banten, namely Lebak, Pandeglang, and Serang. That extreme weather has the potential to cause hydrometeorological disasters, such as landslides, moving ground, flooding, pickaxe nipples, and high waves.

BMKG appealed to the public to increase vigilance for heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning to reduce the risk of disaster. For Tangerang Regency, South Tangerang City, Tangerang City, Cilegon City, and Serang City, he said, it was relatively safe from the threat of such severe weather. The

average air temperature is 24-33 degrees Celsius and the wind moves from southwest to west at a speed of 0.5-30 kilometers per hour, while the air humidity is between 60-95 percent. During the morning and afternoon, the weather is cloudy and light to moderate rain intensity in Banten and surrounding areas.

BMKG also issued an early warning to cruise operators, particularly fishing boats and barges crossing the waters south of Banten, the Indian Ocean south of Banten, southern Sunda Strait, as wave heights in those waters range from 1.25-2.5 meters (moderate) on the coast in Lebak Regency and Pandeglang Regency. The crossings of Peacock (Banten) and Bakauheni (Lampung) are relatively safe and normal as wave heights in the waters of the northern Sunda Strait reach 1.25 meters (moderate).
