REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono said the normalization of Kali Ciliwung to address the flooding problem in Jakarta will continue gradually.

“Look, there are certain points that we can resolve, some are indeed gradual. Not all Kali Ciliwung tens of kilometers have been completed, there are social impacts that need to be taken into account,” Heru said after scattering fish seeds and planting trees in Jagakarsa embung, Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, Friday (16/2/2024).

Heru said there are several concepts for flood control in Jakarta, one of which is building embung (small reservoirs). Embung Jagakarsa in South Jakarta became one of the efforts to overcome flooding and flood control.

Jagakarsa inflatable area has an area of about 8,000 square meters that can hold 17 thousand cubic meters of water.

Embung is designed as a water park or retention pond to address inundation and flood control or inundation in the Lenteng Agung Village area and surrounding areas and to regulate the water discharge of Kali Mampang connecting to Kali Krukut.

Such small-scale embung or reservoirs are expected to be useful, especially to prevent inundation during high rainfall in South Jakarta.

“Points like Rawajati, Cawang, East Jakarta can be completed, others are underway. While waiting for time, we quickly build bubbles. I thank the colleagues of KADIN DKI who always participate for the citizens of Jakarta,” Heru said.

Earlier, Indonesian President Joko Widodo together with Jakarta Governor Heru Budi and a number of relevant ministers, reviewed the development of the Kali Ciliwung normalization project in Pengadegan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday.

“This normalization of Kali Ciliwung is about 17 kilometers away, after stopping for a while we will start,” Jokowi said after the review in Jakarta on Tuesday (21/2/2023).

Jokowi said that there are already several points where land acquisition has been made, for example in Rawajati, South Jakarta, where construction can begin soon.

Jokowi hopes normalization of Ciliwung's remaining 17 kilometers times will be completed by the end of 2024. According to the President normalization will be very influential to reduce flooding as water from above will be retained in Ciawi and Sukamahi Dams.
