REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the Great Management of Indonesian Doctors Association (PB IDI) Mohammad Adib Khumaidi stated that the community health center (puskesmas) should get back on functioning to make society healthy. In other words, health centers do not focus only on medical or curative services.

“The health center must make the community healthy, not just the health care center, which ultimately does not concern the functions of the health center, because it is still curative around making referrals and managing the participation of BPJS, which (the budget) is still large,” Adib said during a press conference that followed in Jakarta, Monday (5/2/2024).

In a press conference related to the presidential candidate debate (presidential election) held on Sunday (4/2/2024), Adib explained that health centers as first-level health facilities or primary services must have good health integration. The problem, according to Adib, is that in the integration of health services, there are still 51.4 percent of health centers that do not have nine types of health personnel.

Nine types of health personnel according to the standards of the Ministry of Health, namely doctors, dentists, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, public health workers (kesmas), sanitarians, laboratory workers, and nutritionists. Adib also said that the management of health centers should support medical personnel in order to provide more professional services.

“Speaking of health centers, we must return them to their public good function, there are 10 health center programs that must be constantly improved,” he said.

The 10 health centers programs, namely mother-child health and family planning (KB), nutritional health, environmental health, eradication and prevention of infectious diseases, public health extension, school health (UKS), adolescent health, dental and oral health, 24-hour inpatient care, and laboratory services.
