AICIS 2024 Inspires Islamic Universities to Build Civilization

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- The 23rd Annual International Conference on Islamic Studies (AICIS) Forum 2024 is combined with the International Islamic Higher Education Expo and Semarang Halal Festival at UIN Walisongo Semarang, Central Java, on 1-4 February 2024.

Muhammad Ali Ramdhani, Director General of Islamic Education of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia, said that this forum was called so that universities could collaborate with each other to build civilization.

“This activity is part of the activity of AICIS and I hope that it improves further and shows that the contribution of Islamic colleges is increasingly recognized as part of the way we build civilization,” he explained on Thursday (1/2/2024).

Ali Ramdhani mentioned that the exhibition activity (expo) is as a ride for religious colleges including its ecosystem to show the works and achievements of the college. The opening of the expo was marked by tabuh gong by Ali Ramdhani accompanied by Director of Islamic Religious College Ahmad Zainul Hamdi and Acting Rector of UIN Walisongo Prof. Nizar Ali, at the UIN Walisongo Planetarium.

The Semarang Halal Festival next to Auditorium II was attended by local culinary entrepreneurs who presented a diverse menu of halal dishes from different regions and academics.

While at the Planetarium, various Islamic colleges also display diverse results of their best academic work. There is also a Journal Clinic to improve the quality of research and academic writing skills. After the opening, Ali Ramdhani took the time to taste the durian and saw the stands. Ranging from processed foods, beverages, to fashion.

AICIS 2024 will be a meeting and exchange event that brings together academics and religious leaders from a number of countries. They will later discuss various contemporary issues. This year's AICIS had 25 panel sessions provided to discuss issues divided into seven subthemes.

The seven sub-themes are: 1) Religion, Nationalism, and Citizenship in Southeast Asia; 2) The Impact of International Religious Issues and Tensions on Nationalism, Citizenship, and Human Rights; 3) The Crisis of Equality, Justice, and Humanity; 4) Global Religious and Humanitarian Tensions; 5) Gender, Spirituality, and Minority Issues; 6) Political Fiqh on War and Post-Colonial Peace; 7) Policies based on Maslahah Mursalah, Equality, and Empowerment.
