REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Saiful Rahmat Dasuki considered the Annual International Conference on Islamic Studies (AICIS) a strategic forum to redefine the role of religion in the face of various humanitarian crises that occur.
“We hope that AICIS provides valuable insight on how to redefine the role of religion in dealing with the humanitarian crisis,” he said at the opening of AICIS 2024 at the Islamic State University (UIN) Walisongo Semarang in Semarang on Thursday (1/2) evening.
AICIS 2024 will be held on February 1-4 by the Ministry of Religious Affairs as an event to bring together hundreds of Muslim international intellectuals to formulate solutions to various global humanitarian problems.
This year, AICIS raised the theme “Redefining The Roles of Religion in Addressing Human Crisis: Encountering Peace, Justice, and Human Rights Issues” to achieve peace, justice, and mutual respect for one another.
“Let us continue to maintain and foster the spirit of open dialogue and mutual understanding building bridges between beliefs, creating peace. Individuals feel peace, justice, and respect for their fundamental rights,” he said.
Director General of Islamic Education Ministry Muhammad Ali Ramdhani encouraged AICIS to come up with a mutual agreement to address global humanitarian problems.
“AICIS is not only an exclusive and theoretical academic forum, but as an academic forum that offers solutions to various global crises,” said Kang Dhani, a familiar figure.
These hopes, he admitted, were underpinned by worsening conditions for world peace in various parts of the world. Unprecedented wars in the Middle East have claimed tens of thousands of lives.
Likewise, the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which have not yet shown signs of war will end, then the conditions of concern for the ethnic Rohingya are causing many refugees.
“The above phenomenon is causing a global humanitarian crisis due to the loss of religious morality that has long been the control of attitudes and actions carried out by human beings,” he said.
Also present at the opening of AICIS 2024 were Director of Islamic Religious Higher Education Ahmad Zainul Hamdi, Head of HDI Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Akhmad Fauzin, Steering Committee of AICIS 2024 Mukhsin Jamil.
AICIS is followed by rectors of state Islamic religious colleges (PTKIN) and private Islamic religious colleges (PTKIS) throughout Indonesia, religious leaders, and hundreds of Islamic international academics.
