REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian diva and senior singer Ruth Sahanaya will explore acting for the first time through Glenn Fredly's film The Movie. It turns out that there was a unique story going on before Ruth finally decided to try dueling roles.

“Up to this point, I'm still drifting, really, I'm in the (acting) world, a completely different world to my habits,” said the woman known as Mama Uthe at the launch of the teaser poster and trailer for Glenn Fredly's The Movie, at Epicentrum XXI on Wednesday (25/1/2024).

Ruth said her involvement in Glenn Fredly's film The Movie began when she and her husband, Jeffry Waworuntu, were watching at home. Ruth then spontaneously expressed her interest in being able to act in films.

“It's nice to be able to play a movie. Exclaim, another challenge,” Ruth said, imitating what she said to her husband at the time.

Then about five minutes later, actor and director Lukman Sardi contacted Ruth by phone. Glenn Fredly's film director The Movie offered Ruth to participate in the project.

Ruth reveals that she and Lukman have known each other for a long time. Therefore, Ruth knew that Lukman was working on Glenn Fredly's film project The Movie. On the other hand, Lukman also learned that Ruth was intimately involved with the late singer Glenn Fredly during his life.

Therefore, Ruth was not surprised when Lukman was offered to be involved in Glenn Fredly's film The Movie. However, Ruth thought that she had gotten an offer to sing and fill in for the film's soundtrack.

Lukman then explains to Ruth that he did not ask Ruth to be involved as a singer, but as a film performer. Hearing this, Ruth was briefly surprised but thought that the role offered by Lukman was a cameo role.

Contrary to Ruth's estimation, Lukman turns out to offer Ruth to play Glenn's mother, Linda. In Glenn's film Fredly The Movie, Linda is one of four female figures in Glenn's life who are the focus of the story.

Hearing this, Ruth felt even more surprised. Ruth did not think that God would immediately grant the prayer she had spoken to her husband about five minutes ago.

Despite feeling a lack of confidence, Ruth eventually agreed to take on the role. As a newcomer to the acting world, Ruth revealed that her experience of going through the process of filming Glenn Fredly's film

The Movie felt like a lot of fun

Ruth stated that Lukman as a director had helped her a lot while on the set. Ruth also gained a lot of support and trust from Glenn's family as well as other cast members, including actor Bucek Depp who plays Glenn's father, Henkie.

“Thank you all for being patient with me as a new person in the world of cinema,” Ruth said.

Ruth also expressed her gratitude for being involved in the biographical film of a singer who has a special place in her heart. In addition, as she gained a very pleasant experience during the filming process, Ruth did not deny that she felt hooked to return to acting in the future.

“If you're asked if you're addicted or not, it probably is. Because it's a different atmosphere and another challenge for me,” Ruth explained.
