REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir met with two AFF officials, President General Khiev Sameth and Secretary General Winston Lee. The meeting was to discuss Indonesia's preparations as host of the AFF U-16 and U-19 Cup which will take place in mid-2024.
In addition to discussing Indonesia's preparations for the two age-group events, Erick reportedly also discussed improving referee competence at Southeast Asian level.
“Met with AFF President Gen Khiev Sameth and AFF General Secretary Winston Lee to coordinate on Indonesia's preparations to host the AFF U-16 and U-19 Cup in mid-2024. In addition, we also discussed preparations for improving the competence of referees in Southeast Asia in order to improve the match,” Erick said as quoted from his official Instagram account on Tuesday (23/1/2024) evening.
Erick, who is also the current Minister of SOE, is in Qatar. He accompanied the players of the Indonesian national team that will play the final match of the 2023 Asian Cup group stage against Japan on Wednesday (24/1/2024).
He had met the national players while doing breakfast on Tuesday morning. He reminded the players have a responsibility to carve out new history, namely qualifying for the top 16 of the Asian Cup for the first time.
