REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- 5th President of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri celebrated her 77th birthday today. Minister of Defence (Menhan) of Prabowo Subianto, who was also Presidential Candidate number 02, wished Megawati to be healthy always and have a long life.
“Of course we wish a happy birthday (to) Megawati Soekarnoputri may long live, be healthy always, be given health and kindness by the Almighty,” Prabowo said answering a reporter's question on the sidelines of his activities in Bangkalan, Madura, East Java, on Tuesday (23/1/2024).
Megawati Soekarnoputri celebrated her 77th birthday on Tuesday, with family and close relatives. General Secretary of PDIP Political Party Hasto Kristiyanto said that the celebration of Megawati's anniversary was simple. “As in previous years, Ms. Megawati's birthday was held simply and attended by her family and close friends,” Hasto said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He said the entire cadre of PDI Struggle also celebrated Megawati's 77th birthday at their respective places. Its forms of celebration, among other things, are cutting stubs and distributing food to the community, staging various cultural activities, up to planting trees as a form of greening.
“In some regions, reforestation is carried out as part of caring for the land, which is a daily tradition of Mrs. Megawati, who is known for loving plants and always taking care of the living environment, including being the Chairman of the Indonesian Botanical Garden Foundation,” Hasto said.
Not only that, the cadres of PDIP also sent remarks to Megawati through a video recording broadcast in the YouTube channel of the PDI Perjuangan Cultural Agency.
On the same occasion, Hasto also alluded to the nakedness of Megawati's figure. For Hasto, Megawati was a proven figure to uphold the constitutional mandate of the Indonesian State Basic Law of 1945.
“By following his struggle, the various intimidations that are taking place at this time serve as a ferment to be more and more solid in realizing the sovereignty of the people as the supreme law in determining the leader,” Hasto said.
Megawati and Prabowo briefly forged a political partnership during the 2009 presidential election. The two then advanced with Megawati as presidential candidate, while Prabowo as vice presidential candidate faced off against Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Boediono and Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto.
