REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinator of the Presidential Special Staff, Ari Dwipayana, stated that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and the Ministry of State Secretariat are still confirming the replacement for former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Firli Bahuri.

"This is an ongoing process. There are several things that need to be confirmed by the president and the State Secretariat Ministry regarding the candidates," he remarked when met on Monday (22/1/2024).

Dwipayana explained that the confirmation process carried out by the president and the Ministry of State Secretariat should be completed before submitting the candidate's name to the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).

He highlighted that the submission has been regulated in Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning the KPK.

Article 33 of the KPK Law stipulated that the president can submit to the DPR the name of a replacement candidate for the KPK chairman from those not selected during the fit and proper test.

"Of the four chairman candidates who took the fit and proper test and did not pass it, the president must confirm it again," Dwipayana explained.

Referring to these regulations, the four people who were not selected during the recruitment for KPK chairman in 2019 were Sigit Danang Joyo, Luthfi Jayadi Kurniawan, I Nyoman Wara, and Roby Arya Brata.

Earlier, President Jokowi had signed Presidential Decree Number 129/P of 2023 concerning the dismissal of Firli Bahuri as KPK chairman.

The Presidential Decree was signed on December 28, 2023, and took effect according to the stipulated date.

"On December 28, 2023, the president signed Presidential Decree Number 129/P of 2023 concerning the Dismissal of Firli Bahuri as KPK chairman for the 2019-2024 term of office. The Presidential Decree came into effect on the date it was determined," Dwipayana stated.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) earlier named Bahuri as a suspect in the alleged extortion case against former agriculture minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

Bahuri has also submitted a resignation letter to President Jokowi through the Ministry of State Secretariat, dated December 22, 2023.
