300 Subang Residents Evacuated by Landslide

Two people died as a result of landslide.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SUBANG -- The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Java said hundreds of people were displaced by landslides in Pasanggrahan village, Kasomalang District, Subang Regency.

“The Jabar BPBD team is already on site to carry out evacuation and assessment of the needs of personnel, equipment and logistics for disaster management,” said Dani Ramdan, Head of Daily Managing Director of Jabar BPBD in Subang on Monday (8/1/2024).

He claimed to continue to coordinate with BPBD Subang related to the handling of the disaster. The landslide in Pesanggrahan village occurred on Sunday (7/1/2024) afternoon as a result of high intensity rain.

According to reports received, about 300 people were displaced as a result of the disaster, a number of people were injured, and two people died. Hundreds of residents affected by the disaster are currently evacuating to Majlis Ta'lim Bantar Panjang.

“To date, assessments and data are still being carried out. We also continue to coordinate with various parties so that the handling of this landslide disaster goes optimally,” Dani said.

He called on the public to be vigilant in anticipation of the natural disaster that hit a number of areas in Jabar in recent days. On Monday, Acting Governor of West Java Bey Machmudin reviewed the landslide site in Pasanggrahan village.

“For the residents affected by the landslide who are now displaced, for the families of the victims as well, we are also concerned about this disaster. May we remain stoic and given patience,” Bey said.

He said conducting a direct review of the disaster site as a form of concern and synergy between the Provincial Government of West Java and the Government of Subang Regency. On his visit to the disaster site, he was accompanied by Acting Regent of Subang, Kalak BPBD of West Java, Police Chief of Subang, and Dandim 0605/Subang.

They gave direct support to the refugees and took the opportunity to visit one of the injured who also lost his wife as a result of the disaster. Bey advised the evacuees to be patient not to return home until conditions are safe because of fears of an aftershock.

“Please be patient to stay in the refuge first, until the conditions are safe because the weather is quite extreme at the moment,” he said.
