REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) confirmed that it will intervene in handling the accident of two trains this morning in Bandung, Jawa Barat. Kasubbag Datin and Public Relations of KNKT Secretariat, Anggo Anurogo said an investigation team had been set up.
“Currently KNKT is drafting an investigation team that will be assigned to the scene,” Anggo told Republika on Friday (5/1/2024).
Meanwhile, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI ensured handling of the accident would also involve KNKT. Currently, the process of evacuating damaged trains and injured passengers is still being carried out.
“KAI will also conduct an investigation together with KNKT to determine the cause of the accident,” said EVP of Corporate Secretary KAI Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji.
KAI apologizes for the disruption of service due to the accident between KA Turangga on the Surabaya Gubeng-Bandung link and Commuterline Bandung Raya. The accident occurred at kilometer 181+700 stretch of road between Haurpugur-Cicalengka Station at 06:03pm.
As a result of the accident, KAI engineered the ride's operations.
“For KA-KA trips that will cross the Haurpugur-Cicalengka region, KAI will carry out an effort to engineer an operating pattern in the form of detours and diversions using other transport,” Dwinanto said.
A total of three people were reported passed away, including the railway machinist.
“There are three fatalities, who were local KA machinists,” said the Head of Public Relations of West Java Police, Kombes Ibrahim Tompo, when confirmed by the media crew on Friday (5/1/2024).
The other two victims were an assistant from a local KA machinist and a Turangga train steward. As for the victims, the other injuries are still in the records. At the moment the evacuation process is still being carried out.
“The assistant was a local railway machinist as well as a Turangga railway steward,” Tompo said.
Republika.co.id reported earlier, the collision of two trains (KA) occurred in Bandung Regency this morning (5/1/2023). The accident involved KA Turangga with local KA Bandung Raya on the tenement line of Cicalengka-Haurpugur Station at 06:03pm.
Director General of the Ministry of Railways Risal Wasal said that the focus is currently on helping the victims.
“In order to follow up and evacuate the victims of this incident, DJKA has dispatched a technical team to secure the scene,” Risal said.
