REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Some people want to fill their time with useful things with the Quran. However, is it possible to read it in the middle of work?
If one does not have a job, it is permissible to fill that leisure time by reading the Quran. This is the same as praying or praying because remembering is better than silence.
However, if the reading of the Quran can be omitted from the main work, this should not be done because the time has been devoted to work.
On that basis, he should not fill his free time with an activity that could interfere with the main work (Majmu Fatawa wa Maqalatil Mutanawwiah).
As for speaking, the qari should be engaged in reading and memorizing the Quran purely because of the face of God, not because of riya or wanting to be praised and sumah (want to be heard), and not ask for any remuneration, since worship is a form of taqarub (self-approach) to Him.
Then also respect the customs of tilawah or reciting the Quran, such as praying (asking for protection) to Allah from the temptation of the cursed demons when beginning the qiraah, as well as reciting basmalah when starting the qiraah from the beginning of a surah other than Surah at-Taubah.
