REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Perfumes are very important in the daily life of Prophet Muhammad. She always wants to keep it clean and fragrant. The Prophet used to use fragrances whenever he went to prayer especially on Friday prayers and advised his companions to do so.

“Anyone who bathes on Friday and cleanses himself as much as he can and applies oil (on his hair) or perfumes himself and then proceeds to pray all his sins between this day and the last Friday will be forgiven,” (narrated by Bukhari).

So using perfume for men is a sunnah that can be followed. Perfume is also known as one of the gifts that a person can give.

Many of us are perfume wearers, but some don't care about fragrance. The Prophet Muhammad loved cleanliness and fragrant aroma.

This is evident in many hadiths that discuss his love of fragrances and fragrant scents such as musk, oud and amber.

In one of the famous hadiths, he said, “In this world, women and perfume are what I like best, and my consolation has been provided in prayer,” (narrated by Nasa'i).

The Prophet's favorite scents are known to be the scents of Amber and Musk. Fragrant smells were a good habit in the life of the Prophet Muhammad.

He doesn't like to go out without wearing a bit of perfume. And if perfume is presented to him, he will never refuse it.

Anas said, “The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will not refuse perfume,” (narrated Bukhari).

The Prophet Muhammad's wife, Aisha, used to spray the prophet's clothes with her favorite perfume whenever she went out for prayer or met her best friend. He said, “I will put a lot of fragrances on the Messenger of Allah to the extent that you can see the sparkle in his blessed forehead and blessed beard.” It is narrated that Muhammad ibn 'Ali said, “I asked 'Aisha: Does the Messenger of Allah wear perfume? ' He said, Yes, the perfumes men use: Musk and amber. '“

In another hadith, Anas narrates, “I never smelled amber or musk as the scent of the Prophet's body and I never touched brocade or silk and found it as soft as the body of the Messenger of Allah”. (narrated by Bukhari)
