REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Spain, Mohammad Najib, invited Muhammadiyah to increase its role in the global scene. Given the current conditions of the world it is judged to be moderate not well.
“I want to remind you that our world is not all right now. That is why I call on Muhammadiyah to increase its role in the international scene, the world needs Muhammadiyah,” Najib said in a live stream earlier this week.
He pointed out that there are two major factors that make the situation in the world unwell. The first is natural factors or climate change, which have a tremendous impact. Climate change is caused by things that are already known to humans, but there are also things that are not yet known.
The second factor, he said, is the factor of human greed. The whims of certain dominating states are judged to be straddling or exploiting natural wealth. Good in the form of gases, minerals, which are in different countries.
“What we are capable of because of our understanding of the changing political map of the world we do not fully understand. This often causes us to be trapped and react sporadically, addressing only peripheral rather than substantial issues,” he said.
He said that there was a map of political change at the global level. If the world was originally known as bipolar because of the great powers of first Russia with the Soviet Union, then America with its NATO or with its allies, the rivalry between these two must end when Russia has to leave Afghanistan.
This gives rise to what is known as a monopolistic world. A world entirely controlled by America and its allies. This is what Fukuyama called in his book The End of History, that the world is controlled only by America and its allies.
Over time, Najib elaborated, the advances in science and technology that made new countries economically have tremendous power have implications for political power and then military power.
This has led to the world being referred to as multipolar. For example, China, Japan, India, South Korea, which are the new countries that are coloring the map of political change at the global level.
“We often find that this change of the map is like the First and Second World Wars that gave rise to tremendous eruptions that shook the world. At the moment we have seen the first two eruptions in real terms and their impact. The first the Ukraine war, the second the Gaza war,” Najib said.
It stressed that at the moment no one in the world can predict which fire will explode one day. Whether it is in the Taiwan Strait, in the South China Sea, or it may be that there is a new explosion that is unknown but has appeared.
“We can see how the current war in Gaza is causing the world's most robust institutions to be crippled. Due to the factors of the states. Therefore, do not let the state fight on its own, Muhammadiyah must participate because in the world conditions that, as it is today, the role of state actors alone is not enough. We need a so-called civil society,” he said.
He urged mass media scholars to participate in exerting political pressure on institutions that want to dominate multilateral institutions such as the United Nations and so on. On this side, he said, Muhammadiyah needs to join the call of humanity.

Muhammadiyah is said to have a wealth of experience in how to set up schools, hospitals, which are devoted not only to Muslims, but to humanity. “Try to improve this experience on a global level because the world today needs the role of Muhammadiyah,” he said.
He hoped that Indonesian students who studied in Spain thanks to the Muhammadiyah Union would be able to fill a tank of intellectuality that is not limited to a diploma sheet. But it also enhances capabilities at a global level that can benefit humanity and devotion to nation states.
